The third day of October in the Year of our Lord two thousand and ten.

The pilot light on the water heater went out. Relighting it proved fruitless. (Memo to myself: buy more burn cream.) Ruddy service technician won't come until Tuesday. Will have to make due with cold water until then. Didn't bother telling the others.
